Water Main Flushing – September 14-18, 2026

Harris County WCID No. 89 will conduct directional water main flushing throughout the District from September 14–18, 2026 as part of routine maintenance of the District’s water distribution system.

Directional flushing helps remove sediment and mineral buildup from water mains by directing water through the system at a higher velocity and discharging it through fire hydrants. During and shortly after flushing, residents may temporarily experience discolored water, reduced water pressure, or changes in taste or odor. These conditions are normal and temporary.

During flushing, residents are encouraged to:

• Avoid doing laundry, as sediment may stain clothing.
• Turn off ice makers.
• Avoid running hot water.
• Close the cold-water inlet valve to the water heater, if accessible.

After flushing, residents should:

• Run cold-water faucets until the water runs clear.
• Clean faucet aerators.
• Drain the water heater, if necessary.
