On July 7, 2021, the Harris County WCID 89 Board was made aware of a number of residents of the WCID 89 Brunswick Meadows subdivision who are having an issue with water odors and other quality issues. If you are one of those residents, please report it to SI Environmental at 832-490-1601.
The District uses both surface water from the City of Houston and ground water from two wells within the District. The the water is treated and mixed to provide water to the residents coming from the ground storage tanks. We are required to accept 80% surface water and only use 20% ground water due to Subsidence District rules put in place to prevent the subsiding of our land from water overuse. Throughout the year and for various situations the mix of the waters and disinfectants used to treat the water may change and that can result in a change in the characteristics of the water including taste and smell.
Residents can be assured that the Board is not satisfied to just say that the water has been tested and is still up to Texas Commission Environmental Quality (TCEQ) standards, which it is. We want to make sure that the use or consumption of the water is not unpleasant or concerning. Our Operator is coordinating the problem location data submitted by the residents and will begin a power flushing program once that is done. In the meantime, our District Engineer has mapped the data and SI will be flushing in all of those areas submitted to the Board by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Harris County WCID 89
During the Beta Storm, the District experienced street flooding in some areas and ponds that would not recede for a number of days in others. We requested cleaning of the outfall channels surrounding the District to mitigate these occurrences.
According to an update on 2/23/21 from Myron Jones of the Harris County Flood Control Department (HCFCD): in-house crews are mobilizing onsite today at the A136-00-00 channel. They will be desilting the channel from Beltway 8 all the way down to Clear Creek A100-00-00.
The work will begin possibly today or tomorrow and should take up to a couple of weeks to complete weather permitting. Our thanks to Myron and Flood Control for following up.
Best Trash will resume regular Friday pickup on 2/19/21. That means both trash and recycling will be picked up.
Due to the City of Houston’s low water pressure concerns, as a precautionary measure, our Operator, SI Environmental, has shut off the City of Houston water at the interconnect with HCWCID89. Now we are using 100% WCID 89 well water from our two wells. Everyone should have good water pressure but if you are experiencing other issues, please call Si Environmental at 832-490-1601.
The City of Houston is under a Boil Water Notice but the District is not. All though Harris County WCID 89 uses some City of Houston water, the water is retreated before it is dispersed into our water system.
The District is not under a boil water notice because thus far we have not lost water pressure and are being well served by the gas generator is the Board had the foresight to invest in years ago. After Hurricane Ike we wanted to make sure we had adequate water and sewer in the event of an emergency. Gas generators can run for long periods of time as long as gas supplies are continuous. Everyone please try to stay warm. We will continue to update you as the situation changes.
Unfortunately, due to the extreme weather conditions, there will be no trash pick up service by Best Trash on Tuesday February 16, 2021.
